So, there is this thing called “wellness” that has been buzzing around for a while now. But what wellness mean? Is it really all about hitting the gym and munching on kale, I mean I am sure that cannot hurt I like Kale but there must be something more to it? I mean Kale is great but in a lot of circumstances it is not the answer. Well, if you are here on this site, chances are you are starting to pay more attention to your health and wellness because years of stress and unhealthy habits have finally caught up with you. In this blog post, I am going to dive into what wellness really means and share some wellness tips on what I have found over the years makes me feel “well.” So, if you are interested Let us get this wellness party started!

First, let us define health and wellness. It is not just about physical health and wellness tips – it encompasses your mental, emotional, and spiritual health as well. Too much emphasize these days are about physical health, in fact I would not even call it physical health, its more about physical appearance and really it is making a lot of people I know not “well,” to say the least. In other words, wellness is about feeling good in all areas of your life. This might include things like getting enough sleep, managing stress, maintaining healthy relationships, and feeling fulfilled in your work and personal life. Nothing we have not heard before, right?

But, in my experience a key wellness tip is self-awareness. It is important to know yourself well enough to understand what you need to feel your best. This might mean taking note of when you feel most energized, identifying your personal triggers for stress, or figuring out what activities make you feel fulfilled. Once you have a good understanding of yourself, you can start to make changes that will support your overall wellness.

Another key component of health and wellness and the most talked about wellness tip is to take care of your body. This might mean eating a balanced diet, getting enough exercise, and prioritizing sleep. It is important not to take an all-or-nothing approach to this – even slight changes can make a significant difference. Finding something that you enjoy and using that as a stress relief and not a chore is a great wellness tip. If you do not know what you like, I would recommend keeping exploring different activities until you find it, because when you do, it will change everything.

Prioritizing mental and emotional wellness is just as important as physical wellness. This might include things like meditation, therapy, or simply taking some time each day to check in with yourself and reflect on your emotions. For a lot of people, it also means to stop people pleasing behaviour, setting boundaries, and finally learning to say NO. I will admit it, I might be one of those people and it is a never-ending battle to check in with myself and ask myself – what do I want to do? What do I want to say? I grew up with the saying “Little girls should be seen and not heard” among other completely damaging euphemisms it has been a long road to identify what I was. Are you just really really nice or are you damaging your mental health trying to please absolutely everybody in your life. It is also crucial to surround yourself with positive influences and supportive people – relationships with others and our relationship with ourselves, I have found, have an enormous impact on my wellbeing.

Finally, finding a sense of purpose and fulfillment is key to overall wellness. This is something that the Japanese culture take extremely seriously to live a long and happy life, and honestly, I would have to agree. This might mean exploring your passions or finding ways to give back to your community providing a safe and stable home for your children or family members. It is important to have something in your life that motivates and inspires you – something that makes you feel like you are making a difference in the world. No matter how small it is if your life is entirely about yourself, good times, Money you will forever be chasing the next thing without real fulfilment.

So, what does wellness mean? To me it means taking an integrated approach to your health and wellbeing – taking care of your mind, body, and spirit. It means doing the work to know yourself and making choices that support your overall wellness. If only it was as easy as following a diet or exercise routine, we are complex creatures and all areas of our wellbeing tie into each other, it needs to be a balanced approach and it needs to be individualized to what you want out of your one life. This is not easy, and it can feel overwhelming to make substantial changes, remember that even small steps can make a significant difference. By prioritizing yourself shutting out the noise of the world telling us what we are supposed to want and what we are supposed to look like, mental, spiritual AND physical wellness will be a lot easier to achieve, you will be setting yourself up to live your best life – and that is something that is worth striving for.
